below all about the area surrounding our holiday apartments.
Please note the words highlighted in blue have links to useful
web-sites, just click on the word to see.
La Barrosa is developed on a scale
sympathetic to the local environment. In fact the whole of the
Costa de la Luz is a breath of fresh air compared to the
usual developments associated with Spain. It has been developed on a
more human scale than the Costa del Sol and local towns and resorts
retain their Spanish culture and character. The beaches are of fine
golden and white sands and are probably the best in Spain. Deep and
wide, stretching for miles they don't suffer the high rise
development of so many tourist resorts. All the beaches in this area
have been of Blue Flag quality since the award started.
The weather along the southern coast
of Spain can be hot in the summer but the breeze from
the Atlantic coast makes it feel more comfortable . Even in the
winter the weather
is usually mild, this is excellent for
people keen on sports as you can enjoy their sport in
a comfortable climate. This area of Spain boasts an average of
300 days of sunshine a year.
A Severiano Ballesteros designed golf
course, of 36 holes, is within walking distance of the apartment,
through the woods nearby. These woods are a public recreational area
with picnic sites and bicycle tracks etc. La Barrosa and
Novo Sancti Petri
(i.e. the golf course area) are also well equipped
for other sports. The golf course covers an area of about 250 acres.
It has 4 football pitches (many European teams carry out their
winter training here), 16 tennis courts, squash courts, archery, a
riding club and three heated swimming pools. There are other courses
slightly further afield near Cadiz, Vejer de la Frontera etc, links
to other golf courses in the region are below:

If you enjoy
horse riding this can be
arranged locally and a favourite ride is along the beaches south of
the resort.
Water sports are popular here. The
windsurfing world championships and other major events have been
held at Tarifa. Kite-surfing is also popular in the area and
takes place at several places along the coast. Nautical sports equipment such as windsurfers,
canoes,
jet skis and sailing boats along with bikes can be hired from a local
company. If you enjoy spending time on boats you can also take a
boat trip across to Sancti Petri Island and explore the
fortifications. There is also the Sancti Petri Sailing Club (Club Nautico de Sancti Petri) located close by.

Dolphin and Whale watching is also a
popular tourist attraction. You can take a boat trip to view
Dolphins and Whales in their natural habitat from
Tarifa or
Gibraltar.
There is of course the amazing city of Cadiz to visit with its
wonderful Spanish atmosphere. Amongst many other things the
Cathedral de Cadiz is worth a visit. It is a magnificent 18th
century baroque building by architect Vincent Acero and has a
neoclassical interior. The splendid tomb of Cadiz born
composer Manuel de Falla lies in it and music lovers from all over
the world come here to pay their respects.
Fiestas
are a Spanish way of life and if there is one taking place when you
are on holiday then they really are a sight to see.
If you want something to entertain the children then there are
several attractions in the area. There are water parks
including Aqua Sherry between Cadiz and Puerto de Santa Maria (tel
956 87 05 11), theme
parks including Islamagica in
Seville, Zoos and of course the beach!
If you enjoy a more relaxing pace of
life then why not try the Spa in one of the local hotels?

For something more unusual there is a Doll Museum in Chiclana
that one of our past guests highly recommends, please visit

for information.
If you get bored of La Barrosa (which is very unlikely) then
there are so many other places to see. Seville with its
wonderful architecture and romantic ambience,
Jerez with its May
Horse Fair, Sherry bodegas and
Grand Prix track, El Puerto de Santa Maria which has a
Casino, Vejer with
its white-washed houses and winding cobbled streets, the list is
endless ....
